• MALAPASCUA ISLAND - BORACAY OF THE VISAYAS

Malapascua has been called the Boracay of the Visayas. Not as crowded as the well-known Boracay, yet easily accessible from Cebu's Mactan international airport by van and bus from the North Transportation Bus Terminal near SM Mall. Malapascua island has everything the sun-worshipper, scuba diver, and outdoor adventurer seeks. Take a world class scuba dive in the crystal clear ocean waters at the wreck of a World War II Japaneese ship. Go snorkelling with the tropical fish at the many coral reefs surrounding Malapascua. Take a treking trip around the island, and or just relax on the white sand and let the wind in the palm trees put you to sleep.

• MALAPASCUA ISLAND SCUBA DIVING LOCATIONS

Malapascua Island is famous for watersports recreation, and scuba diving in the Visayas Region. The main scuba dive sites are, Shark Point where tresher sharks can be seen almost every morning. Occasionally there are also hammerheads and manta rays spotted. Lapus Lapus dive location is rock formation down to 20 meters and there are also beautiful soft corals with small reef fish and also forgfishes, lionfishes, scopionfishes and nudibranches. The Malapascua Lighthouse is a good dive site for night dives. There is a Japanese shipwreck. The ship was attacked in 1944 by USA bombers. The wreck is already covered with many different corals and colourful sea anemones. There are also many sponges, scorpionfishes, seahorses, lionfishes and frogfishes to see too. Gato Island is 40 minutes by boat. There are many dive spots around the island, one includes a cave to dive through. Dona Marilyn shipwreck. This was sunk in a typhoon in 1982. It's like in a dream to dive there because of all the different corals, lionfishes, scorpionfishes, batfishes and many nudibranches. Sometimes you can see nurse sharks, whitetipped reef sharks, eagle rays or stingrays. These are just some of the many scuba dive sites in and around Malapascua Island.

• TRANSPORTATION TO & FROM MALAPASCUA ISLANDS

Malapascua Island is only accessable by boat. There is an airstrip on Bantayan Island nearby. Public transportation to Malapascua is provided by Banca or double outrigger boats from Maya wharf, Daan Bantayan on the Northshore of Cebu Island. From Cebu City it's a 3 hour drive to Maya. For transportation into Cebu, check the transportation page for the air sea schedules, rates, and bookings. Malapascua public transportation is provided by motorcycle. There are no automobile roads on the island.
